Playin’ English
Squeeze, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello Tribute
Playin’ English brings the sharp hooks and clever lyrics of the Second British Invasion to life—covering the music of Squeeze, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, and more. Made up of seasoned Long Island musicians with deep roots in tribute, rock, and pop scenes, the band delivers spot-on arrangements, tight harmonies, and plenty of personality. Whether it’s in clubs, theaters, or outdoor festivals, Playin’ English celebrates a smart, high-energy era of music that still hits home.
Sam Powell (Lead Vocals, Guitar, Keys, Sax) is widely known for his work with FM: A Steely Dan Tribute and Sir Duke: A Stevie Wonder Tribute. In Playin’ English, he brings Squeeze’s melodies to life while juggling guitar, keyboards, sax, and lead vocals.
Darren Gallagher (Lead Vocals, Guitar) is a staple of the NY area scene, having fronted projects like Net Prophets, Badlands: A Springsteen Tribute, and Drive: The Cars Tribute. His expressive vocals and fiery guitar work help define the Playin’ English sound.
Tom Huber (Drums) is a Long Island native with over 30 years of gigging experience—from clubs to corporate events, weddings to short tours. He’s played alongside legends like Cornelius Bumpus (The Doobie Brothers) and Brian Johnson (AC/DC). A longtime fan of the British new wave scene, Tom is right at home behind the kit in Playin’ English.
Tom Flyntz (Lead Vocals, Bass) began playing in original and cover bands as a teen and went on to tour nationally with The New York Bee Gees, sharing the stage with symphonies and playing theaters from San Diego to Boston. His melodic bass lines and lead vocals anchor the band’s sound.
Reggie Bell (Keyboards, Vocals) brings a rich history of NYC club gigs and studio work to the group. From CBGB’s to wedding halls, Reggie’s musical journey has seen him front new wave acts, perform on European TV, and play with numerous tribute and dance bands. With Playin’ English, he revisits the British pop and punk that first inspired him.
Rich Coyle (Keyboards – Sub) rounds out the band’s lineup when needed. A versatile player with roots in soul, classic rock, and tribute projects like Badlands and Four Way Street, Rich brings a deep love for authentic arrangements and killer tone.
